The Insight – We sought to create a farewell campaign that honored Michael Jordan’s profound impact on basketball and the culture it shaped, while also reinforcing the enduring influence of the Air Jordan brand. Our strategic approach leveraged nostalgia and humor to forge a deep emotional connection, bringing back Spike Lee’s iconic Mars Blackmon character to deliver a memorable and heartfelt tribute.

The Solution – I played a key role in shaping the “Goodbye Mars” commercial, which featured the return of Spike Lee’s beloved character, Mars Blackmon. In the ad, Mars humorously tries to come to terms with Jordan’s retirement, pestering him one last time with questions and reflecting on their long-standing partnership. The ad blended humor with a sense of nostalgia, highlighting the enduring bond between Jordan, Mars, and the Air Jordan brand while acknowledging the emotional weight of Jordan’s departure from the game.
